Late Nights: Celebrating Regional Artists

It’s an extra special Late Night this month celebrating All She Surveys and Transcending Tradition: A Look into the History and Future of Virginia Folklife.
All She Surveys features the work of 16 regional mid- to late-career women artists who have built a strong reputation outside of the Roanoke region and have never (or not recently) exhibited at the Taubman.
Transcending Tradition is a compilation of films that feature more than 30 apprenticeship teams and folklife artists from the Virginia Folklife Apprenticeship program, showcasing music, art-making, dance, community, storytelling, and more.
Evening Schedule:
6-7 pm: Pat Jarrett from the Virginia Folklife Program at Virginia Humanities will be in the galleries to share information about the program’s work to sustain cultural heritage across the state
6-8 pm: Guitarist Grace Campbell will perform
6:30-7:30 pm: Several of the talented artists from All She Surveys will be in the galleries to discuss their inspirations, artwork, and careers
Artists featured in the exhibition include Betsy Bannan, Jesi Pace Berkley, Vera Dickerson, Maryann Harman, Lucy Hazlegrove, A.D. Herzel, Jan Knipe, Pippi Miller, Ana Morales, Janet Niewald, Joni Pienkowski, Donna Polseno, Heather Rousseau, Beth Shively, Leah Thompson, and Page Turner.
Galleries open until 9 pm.
Gratificaketion will be on hand selling yummy desserts throughout the evening.
