Behind the Creation with Virgina Tech Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology

Join the two Virginia Tech Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) teams for a discussion of the process and collaboration between ICAT creative teams and Virginia Tech departments of theatre, music, and environmental sciences. Together these diverse teams created the installations: Shakespeare’s Garden and Acoustic Invasion.
During the first portion of the presentation, participants will take a deep dive in to The Making of Shakespeare’s Garden. This exhibition was on view at the Taubman Museum of Art July 12 – August 4, 2024, encouraging visitors to experience the works of Shakespeare thorugh immersive imagery and soundscapes.

The next creative team will present on Acoutsic Invasion: What does an invaded ecosystem sound like?
Acoustic Invation will be on view at the Taubman Museum of Art August 9 – September 8, 2024. In this exhibition, the team explores how invasive species are one of the five factors reshaping the biosphere; threatening native biodiversity, ecosystem services on which society depends and human health. One such impact may occur on the soundscape of the landscape, in which there is emerging interest, especially the impact this may have on various species’ ability to adapt and persist.
Researchers and creators include David Franusich, Grace O’Malley, Jacob Barney, Joe Drake, and Meryl Mims.
