The Taubman Museum of Art will begin accepting applications for our Fall 2013 Internship Program on July 1st. We are seeking undergraduate students and recent graduates who are passionate about the arts and curious about museum work. Our internship program is a hands-on learning experience and provides students with a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at museums.
Description
Interns will work closely with a museum professional on a project connected to the museum’s collections and exhibitions. Interns will have the opportunity to work with the following departments: curatorial, education, special events, or marketing and communications. Interns will be placed on the basis of their experience and academic training, and departmental need and availability.
Each internship will begin with an overview of museum operations and will serve as an introduction to projects in different museum departments. In addition to their departmental responsibilities, interns will participate in discussion meetings with museum staff. Visits to other arts and cultural organizations will also be arranged.
Details
Hours and length of internships vary depending on projects and areas. Most interns will be expected
to commit to a semester-long project, working approximately 8
hours/week. The position is unpaid, with the option of receiving credit
through the intern's academic institution. The internship is open to all
undergraduate students and recent graduates with interest in the museum
field. Knowledge of art and art
history is preferred but not required.
