An Introduction to Folk and Outsider Art

An Introduction to Folk & Outsider Art

This seminar will introduce you to the rich history of folk and outsider art in Virginia and North Carolina. We will examine local artistic production and question traditional definitions of fine art and craft. Students will explore regional artists in detail, and get the opportunity to examine their works in an intimate setting. Sessions will be a mix of lecture and discussion, with an emphasis on works of art in the permanent collection of the Taubman Museum.
