Celebrating Women in Art

An annual benefit celebrating women, art, and art education, this year’s Women’s Luncheon will celebrate the exquisite works on view in the exhibition All She Surveys.

Event Programming

Hosted by the Women’s Luncheon Committee, guests will enjoy a delicious seated luncheon with remarks from keynote speaker Dr. Erica Hirshler, Croll Senior Curator of American Paintings, Art of the Americas, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and curator of Fashioned by Sargent. She will provide a fresh perspective and unique insight into the world of renowned American painter John Singer Sargent, whose Portrait of Norah Gribble is a highlight of the Taubman Museum of Art’s Permanent Collection.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Erica Hirshler, PhD

Dr. Erica Hirshler is the Croll Senior Curator of American Paintings, Art of the Americas, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and curator for Fashioned by Sargent.

Dr. Erica Hirshler is Croll Senior Curator of American Paintings, Art of the Americas, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts. She is particularly interested in the vibrant artistic exchange between the United States and Europe, in issues of national identity and their implications for artists, and in available opportunities for women.

She has lectured and published extensively on late 19th- and early 20th-century American painting, particularly on John Singer Sargent and Mary Cassatt, whose artistic ambitions were integrally tied to Europe. Her current exhibition, Fashioned by Sargent, an interdisciplinary project exploring Sargent’s portraits, fashion and the construction of identity, is on view at Tate Britain.

Dr. Hirshler holds a BA from Wellesley College and an MA and PhD from Boston University. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Terra Foundation of American Art.
